Security & privacy
Should you encrypt a PDF before emailing it?
Email is not private by default. For anything confidential, encrypting the attachment adds a layer that survives the message being forwarded or intercepted.
When it is worth it
Encrypt anything with financial, medical, legal or personal data. For a public newsletter, do not bother.
The mechanics
Set an AES-256 open password on the PDF, attach it, and send the password by another route.
In FreshPDF
Add encryption in seconds with the protect tool before you attach the file.
